The goal
We shoot with .177 caliber air rfiles.
Shooters aim at a steel faceplate with a small hole in the center. Behind this hole sits a bell. A successful shot passes through the hole and strikes the bell, resulting in a satisfying “ring” that signals a perfect score.
Matches usually consist of 7 shots, with 1 practice (sighter) shot before the match starts.
Scoring
Scoring rules can vary for different leagues across the country, but in the Shrewsbury and District Air Rifle Association League, scores for each shot range from 3 to 5.5, giving a maximum possible score of 38.5.
To get a 5.5 you need to shoot the pellet perfectly through the 9.5mm hole in the centre of the target without leaving a mark on the target.
